When attaching the header board, where do you attach the header board.

Your better off aiming for the rim joist between the 1st and 2nd story. Use 4 1/2" galvinized lags and washers stagered top & bottom every 16".

header goes under the rafters on the outside
of the wall your attaching it to,
hit the existing studs to attach to,
