i own a 2000 chevy 1500 4x4 extended cab and it needs a tranny. i was wondering what would be the best tranny for this truck would be. i have 33/12.50 r17 for the rims and tires and i tend to tear things up. i need something somewhat cheap as far as trannys go but also something with some durability.

a 2000 model Chevy 1500 came with a 4L60 automatic. What you need is a 4L80 that came in the 2500hd and 3500hd. The 4L80 is built ALOT tougher than the 4L60 for off road purposes, such as logging and things like that. It is a direct bolt up to your k1500 engine

without dollars you over drive trannys are limited. If you have an auto look into a 350 turbo or even a newer model 700r4. Anything newer will be high dollar unless you find a truck with one that some has a bad motor in. I believe you can swaptail shafts between newer model and older auto trannies in chevys. If you have a manual go for the np435 4 speed. The nv3550 is weaker and tear up the nv4500 is high dollar. Just my thoughts. Find a wrecked truck to get the replacement tranny out of and get the extra parts that go with it.
