If someone had their first period for about 20 days (No spotting), should they ask the doctor about taking birth control, or just wait and see how long their next period is? And if so, how long would they take birth control: would it be forever? Thanks!!!

You should call the doctor up asap. Usually periods lasting more than two weeks are something to be concerned about.

Why are you wanting birth control already? I don't know if they would put you on it after only a month, you body is still likely needing to do it's own thing hormonally. Wait a year. Took mine about 4 years to go into a normal pattern. And birth control is for however long you want it to be for. Generally they will only prescribe it a year at a time and then they have you come in and make sure it is not having adverse effects (like raising blood pressure).
