Do you agree with this statement that monkeys in captivity are more like pet...

Nope.

Zoos work really hard to design exhibits, diets, toys, etc that reinforce natural behavior. Other than basic training for medical issues the animals are left to do what they wish to do on their own.

A good example... rather than giving the animals their food in bowls (some diet is, example health reasons) the food is hidden/scattered about the exhibit which forces them to forage like they would in the wild.

Captive animals can have a slightly different behavior than their wild brothers and sisters, but they are anything but turning into domestic counterparts or pets.

Read Coyote's answer very well. She has the experience to make those comments. Do not endanger your health by trying to make a wild animal a pet. You are also endagering the animal.
