And if you needed a further clue, the chemical precursor of vitamin A is "retinol", also know as beta-carotene. A defficiency in this, as well as the other major anti-oxidants, (E and C), can also lead to macular degeneration where vision in the centre of our sight fades and we're left with a form of reverse tunnel vision with only peripheral vision left, a condition becoming more common as people with modern eating habits are aging.
The effect of carrots on eyes was used as a "smoke-screen" by the allied powers during WW2 to explain their pilots' uncanny night-flying abilities following the early development and deployment of radar. But that's no excuse for not eating your veggies!
Cheers.

Eating carrots is not particularly good for vision but there is a compound in them which is used in the eyes. It worked for a while but the Luftwaffe eventually had radar guided nightfighters too.
