They do run out. The solar system gets a continuing supply of fresh comets from the Kuiper belt and the Oort cloud. Once it has fallen into the inner solar system, a comet is only good for a few hundred orbits before it runs out of volatile material. There are a number of asteroids that are thought to be dead comets. Other comets break up, leaving behind a cloud of dust and debris.

A tail that long could take a protracted time to work out. i'm a Christian. i don't see the universe as tiny. Our galaxy is extensive, and there may be one thousand million extra. this is extra suitable than i will think of. If we've been to pass to our sunlight on the fee of sunshine, it may take approximately 8 minutes. because of the fact that easy is 3X10 to the 8th (ability) meters consistent with 2nd, then this will become a extensive type.

Because comets are miles across and they only produce a tail for a few months every few million years. They erode, but VERY SLOWLY!

Maybe because what you see in the tail is only dust specks(and there is alot of dust that make up a comet.)
