So I just got my first perscription for birth control. I haven't picked it up yet, but the doctor did tell me to take it the fifth day of my period. My last two were irregular and I feel that I might skip (one reason why i'm getting on). Is it such a big deal that I don't wait for my next one to start it or can i just start taking it. I had a well-woman exam, so I know i'm not pregnant. When I start taking the pill, how soon should I get my period again?

Talk to your doctor. HE said to take it the fifth day of your period. Call HIM and ask him if you can take it now, or if you really should wait.

Then follow HIS instructions.

Also when you start, give yourself a few pill packs to get regulated to the pills.

The pills are set up to kinda guide your body's hormone level. After the last pill in your pack, you will start within a day or two. It may take a couple of months for your body to adjust to the pill so don't give up. If your cycles are very irregular it will be a God send in the end. Stick with it and good luck!!

You should wait until your next cycle. If I were you I would start the Sunday after your next cycle since the pill packs usually start on Sunday...just makes it easier to keep track.
Once you start, your next cycle will be the last week (4th week) of the pill pack.

You can start taking it if you. You will get you period during week number 4 when you take the placebo pills.

ask your doctor / nurse from your doctors office. you really should call and see what they recommend and stick with that. you are paying them to help you / best to stick to what they advice and not consult y/a for medical advice.
