Actually, it's calculatOR!

calculate + the suffix -or (A suffix appended to words to create an agent noun, indicating a person or item, in this case, who does something.)

Your problem is your spelling. It's calculatOr. It's called that because it's a thing which calculates.

When they were first made, they were named, and they were not nearly as fast as they are today, so the name then was accurate :-)
