I want to apply linseed oil to my new front porch, but after reading the directions I am not sure it is okay to use a latex paint over the oil.

Help! thanks :)

Raw linseed oil may take over 2 weeks or more to dry. Boiled linseed oil dries faster. Cut the boiled linseed oil with 50% mineral spirits, and I recommend 2 coats. You can only paint over linseed oil with oil based paint. You would probably be Ok with a good coat of oil based primer followed by latex, but I HATE LATEX paint outside. It just doesn't hold up as well as properly applied oil base paint. I use linseed oil as a primer on everything bare wood that I want to paint outside and even mix it in oil base paint to make it more durable.

Linseed stand oil is more for mixing with turpentine to create glazes. You should use plain Linseed oil while you paint. Linseed oil is about the consistency of olive oil and works well to add some fluidity to your paint.

Depends on whether it's boiled or raw linseed oil. I'm pretty sure boiled linseed oil can be painted with anything after it has set up. I don't remember what the cure time is but it should tell you on the container.

That's right, don't ever put latex paint over any oil based product....it will not bond..and it will blister.....use only oil based primer/paint.....you can paint over linseed oil, but it needs to be cured for some time.....hoped this helped
