I hope I am not being insensitive, but I simply do not understand why people of different beleifs are all of a sudden getting offended when someone tells them Merry Christmas. This is how it has been for hundreds of years.
Do you really think we are being hostile? We are simply telling you that we wish you a good Christmas. If you do not celebrate Chirstmas this can easily be transferred to your holiday. Why do we have to change to the generic impersonal Happy Holidays instead?

I personally would not be offended in the lest if someone wish ed me a Happy Hannukah, Ramadan, etc...
I would take it as a well meant comment. I can't imagine someone getting offended by wishing them well. And really I am not trying to make a big deal of the issue, I am simply asking becuase I don't understand.

I hope i am not being insenitive too here, but i will not be saying happy holidays to anyone, & if they dont like happy christmas, then its just tough.
Why should we change how its always been just because some people are too sensitive. I have always respected other peoples beliefs, why are they not willing to respect mine?
ps. i am not a racist, we should all respect each other.

People should not be offended by wishing someone "Merry Christmas." America was built on God and Christianity. We Americans should respect that just like if we were to go to another country, we would show the same respect to their religion. So all these immigrants or non-christians should do the same if they choose to live in the good old U.S.A. Be grateful we live in such a great country.

I work in customer service and I tell my customers to have a nice holiday. Who knows who celebrates what holiday anymore. I accidentally said Merry Christmas to a Jewish person once and they got all stuffy with me, hello I can't tell by looking at you that you don't celebrate Christmas.

hmm it shouldn't be taken offensive if someone tells you merry christmas an they didn't know u didn't celebrate that holiday. like u said they jus want u 2 have a merry christmas ( or whtevr holiday u celebrate) it shouldn't be taken as a personal attack thats retarded. If i wanted to offend sumone i'm positive i could come up with sumthing way better than a damn Merry Christmas to say lol but seriously i agree with you completely but i think commericals and whatnot are right 2 say Happy Holidays and not Merry Christmas b/c that could be idk not offensive per say but discriminating in a way but not...i can't find the word to describe it but whtever

I KNOWWWW!!! I know this Jewish person, and every time someone starts singing a Jesus song, she gets all mad. I agree that it's dumb. I think I can explain it though...we Christians dominate America, and our holidays get the most attention. They are resentful about it and feel like their holidays should get more attention, so they don't like Christmas.
But seriously, they're not celebrating it, it's their choice, so they shouldn't be offended that someone else is and it's making them happy...

Honestly? I don't think as many people are offended by this than right-wing conservatives make it out. I have known dozens and dozens of Muslims, atheists, Jews, and non-religious agnostics in my life. Probably hundreds of them. You know how many of them have been offended by me saying "Merry Christmas?" ZERO. I have NEVER had a single person complain EVER. I think that right-wing fundamentalists make this crap up, exaggerate how often it happens, and then use this made-up "fact" to try to make people who believe differently than them look insensitive and irrational. Don't believe the hype about this alleged "problem." The only time anyone gets offended by it is when someone like yourself makes a big deal out of it.

At my job we can not say "Merry Christmas" to anyone. We have Jewish people and Muslims in our area and they do not care for "Merry Christmas" being said to them. If we say it we get fired from our job.

It is rude and arrogant to assume everyone is a Christian. You can simply say Happy Holidays, unless you know the person. What if someone constantly said Happy Chanukah to you? I am SURE you wouldn't appreciate it.
