A friend of mine is coming to visit me in Germany early Feb. and we want to visit a nearby city for a few days during her stay. The options are Brussels, Amsterdam, or Hamburg and the selection should be made with the following criteria: 1) somewhere interesting to visit 2) easy to meet men and 3) can be done on a very small budget. I'm already ruling out Amsterdam because I think 50 percent of the guys there are either there for weed or hookers. Which option should I choose?

Hi there, I'm currently in Germany myself and just got back from a day in Brussels... I highly reccomend it. While I haven't visited Hamburg or Amsterdam yet, I must say, Brussels was WELL worth it. I was only there for about 2 hours (free time by myself, I'm an Au Pair, so the rest of the time was shopping and eating with the family I work for). Within that time I was able to see Place Louise, which is like the Rodeo Drive of Brussels. When you wander around there you can find some really unique bar/caffee's that are affordable. From there I walked to see Palais de Justice, whice was beautiful and VERY old. From there I walked down to the Grand Palace, which was the highlight of my day. I wish I had more time to spend there. I want to go back to see the Mannekin Pis and Rue Marche aux Herbes... I personally only spent about 20 Euros between my lunch, 2 beers, and a few boxes of chocolates to send home to people in the States.

I know the family paid about 11 Euros for parking, and they bought dinner, but that couldn't have been too much 'cause it was Pizza Hut (KIDS!! ugh!) As far as the men are concerned, I can't really say 'cause I wasn't there long enough to even bother, but I did notice that on Avenue Louise, there were a lot of pretty guys... nicer looking than I've seen in Dusseldorf so far ;-)

I hope this helps, and enjoy the trip wherever you end up going. I've put a link to my MySpace page in the source section so you can see the pics I took of Brussels...

Go to another city in the Netherlands. There is Groningen, which is small but a lot of fun, it has a huge student population; Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden, Amersfoort, The Hague.

You'll meet mostly Dutch men in these places, and they are very nice, I've been with the same one for 14 years.

Brussels is good - but have you thought about Prague or Budapest? Both of them are inexpensive and buzzy places for a short stay. Budapest in particular is great.

Enjoy your few days and ... good luck with the men !!
