hard question. i live so close to my neighbors, if i heard gun shots i would call 911, but if i didn't hear sirens pretty damn quick i'd have to go check, see if anything looked "off". odds are other neighbors would be on their porches or peering out, i could probably figure out where it came from by who WASN'T being just a little nosy. if i rang a bell and no one answered, it would be a house number i could write down for the rescue when they came. see, simpler for me. if i heard the gunshots it would be in my part of the complex-not that many houses, and we're arranged in a sort of horseshoe/half-assed cul de sac.
morally, i couldn't shine it on. this is a community of disabled people, and it's possible that if someone were shot they wouldn't be able to help themselves at all. and yeah, the shooter could still be there, if it were a domestic situation. but in that case i'd most likely just not get an answer to a knock on the door-ringing the bell is sometimes a fantasy, they don't always work-which was all i can hope for. just another bit of information.
if the door is standing wide open do i go in? yes. sorry. i'm an idiot. i can't not. the fear the other person is in outweighs my own by a factor of infinity in a case like that.
was a night in 89, when all i needed was to get in out of the cold after i'd been raped at knifepoint. teenager in trouble, and it took a half hour's walk in january, looking behind me the whole time for HIM to change his mind and come back to kill me, to find someone who'd let me in and call for help. so after that humiliation and horror, how can i not respond if i think a neighbor has been shot?

Yah because im crazy and freakay!!! lol no i wouldn't! I would call 9-1-1 right on the spot! Then i would check it out cause im freakay!!!
