If they have a sign stating which company they are with like the Red Cross or Salvation Army, then I donate money.

I don't because all the money you donate doesn't go to helping people. Some of it goes to paying the wages of the people that are standing outside of the store, and other people in the organization. I'd rather drop some canned food off at the homeless shelter or a bag of dog food to the pound. At least you know that goes to the people or animals who need it.

Not only do I donate money, I cook food at home and take to them to help with the meals they pass out.(1 x week until after the holidays. Then maybe 1x a month.

i'll buy fund raising candy from boy scouts or kids raising money for school activities and put my change in the plastic boxes on counter if it's for some one local in need. never for pan handlers, although i have offered to buy them a coffee or sandwich, no takers yet, i guess they can't exchange it for booze or drugs.

i donate to whomever asks. i may not give a lot but i give to everyone. i am more fortunate than they are and i always remember that. it is not up to me to judge who really needs it and how the money is used.
