Several good ones are out there. Gods and Generals was a great very accurate movie. The Blue and The Grey very good too. Shenandoah with Jimmy Stewart was not a Civil War movie but it was set in that time frame and dealt with it very well. As did Gone With The Wind.......Glory was good too.
Gettysburg and so many more.

The Movie Gettysburg is a great one it is based on the diaries of many soldiers. For a historical fiction check out Cold Mountain which is more of a civil war love story. Last is the Academy Award winning Gone with the wind which is considered to be Thee civil war movie.

One word - Gettysburg
It's based on the novel "The Killer Angels" which won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1986. The author, Mike Shaara did tons of research to get the conversations between Lee and Longstreet, Meade and Buford, etc all as authentic as possible.
Give it a try!

"Gettysburg" is pretty well-known for its historical accuracy. Not bad for a movie.
"Glory" is pretty good, too, though not nearly as historically accurate at "Gettysburg." It is a little more dramatized.
Avoid "Gangs of New York." Someone above mentioned that, and although a highly entertaining and well-done movie, it is very IN-accurate.
