Put out food for the birds. The squirrels will take over. The trick will be getting rid of them once they establish your yard as their territory and become pests.

How do you send squirrells back to the woods as ellie suggested here lol? I just bet that way before that sub division or house she lived in ..it was woods..untill humans destroyed thier habitat ..so who really belongs..she sure sounds a little ..uhh errr... "squirelly to me"..!..The cheapest grain to buy would be whole kernel dried corn from a feed mill versus a pet shop..also can buy whole ears of dried corn and hang from the trees on wire a few inches from the limb..so they can down and get a hold of them...They will eat any grain at all..but the whole corn is cheaper than bird seed...wire up metal bowls or buckets on trees with wire , nothing fancy..and if there are a few within your area..they will soon show up...Funny I was raised in the country, and we hunted alot for our food out of necessity not some sense of weird enjoyment. However, our dad would not let us hunt anything within a mile from our house, for he believed as the Indians did that nature has thier rights too..and to keep the harmonious balance of the nature within your immediate area..Oh yes, I do love fried squirrell..but can look out my window and spot at least 9 of them at any given time..3 large pecan trees..and nothing better than sitting on the deck watching them sprint about...We feed them constantly with corn and milo, on top of the pecans that grow here...These squirrels will never end up in a stew pot..but the ones a mile away..well...at least they arent fed and shooting ducks in a rain barrell!

What on earth would you want to do that for? They are vicious little cretins- oh and i know they are pretty but they are rats with bushy tails. They dig dirty great holes in your lawn to bury their nuts in and they pinch all the food put out of the birds- don't encourage them into your garden- send them back the woods where they are happiest.

I know that squirrels like bird seed, so you could try sprinkling birdseed in your yard.
