What? You want to wipe out the drug trade?
I couldn't agree more, only you don't have to make it random.
Make it a program that will force them to stay clean or starve.
Test them every week, you can tell them they have to come fill a bottle or give up a vial of blood every week.
Yes , this will be expensive, but after the first round cuts the welfare rolls in half we can afford it.

I think it is a great idea in theory but what will happen when they test positive and don't get their cheque? They will turn to crime and that will cost the city a lot more than the money saved by not paying them. It is idealistic and I doubt it would act as a deterrent to most, maybe just stop a few occasional recreational users. Would it include alcohol? Some irregular users may turn to alcohol instead, and I think there is probably a greater risk of domestic violence from alcohol abuse than drug abuse.
If only it was a solution.....

Sure...drug testing is done in a lot of places now. Giving druggies money is crazy...you know they will use it to buy more drugs. If they are not tested, the Welfare Dept. becomes an enabler, which is not beneficial for anybody.

Definitely, I also think that welfare recipients should have to perform community service if they are still on welfare after 90 days, attend training programs, and meet other requirements to help them establish or maintain discipline while on welfare. Welfare mothers take turns working in daycare so that others can perform their community service and attend training.

If you do not want to take a test for drug use, get a job and support yourself. As for if it will work or not, I am sure if any one is suspected of using drugs, and the agency policy is you can not be using drugs if we are supporting your welfare, I would think it will. they will siphon out the dweebs.

That kind of dictatorial measure is absolutely unAmerican and unconstitutional. The right-wing in your city or any other can talk--and that's all. People who need whelfare are not criminal suspects and may not be treated as such. "Would it work" actually means "cn we get away with impsing a dictatorship"--and the answer is NO.
America is not a police state--however much the right would like it to be. If they don't like that, they need to emigrate.

Yes, I have to take random drug tests to pay taxes, they should have to take drug tests to receive those funds.
