My daughter will be 1 yr old on Dec. 4th. I have been slowly giving her milk and she has been doing great with it. The day of her 1st bday and I totally getting rid of the formula. Do I also stop with the cereal too? She doesn't have the cereal too much, just normally at night and during her nap. Anyhow, I want to break her from the bottle as soon as possible too so should I take her formula, cereal and bottle away from her completely when she turns 1? She also has to have a binkie at night and I want to take that too, but not sure if I should do all of this at one time.

She eats table foods and the only reason I kept her on cereal is because WIC is still giving us vouchers for it. They told me to take her off of it at 1 yr also. I don't put much in her bottles so I am not sure if she will even miss it. The last few nap times I've just given her milk and she slept fine.

JemJems- I have given her a sippy.. she takes one throughout the day.. If you're going to be a b*tch about it, dont even answer!! You don't know all the facts so don't go assuming. My question was, do I just get rid of the bottles completely?!?!?!.. Did I say ANYTHING about not already giving her a sippy?? NO, I did not. I was told by my WIC consultant that I am to keep her on cereal until she is a year old.....My point of asking this question was to get others ideas on how I should do this....I can't stand people like you!!!!!!!! YES, I did my research.

My pediatrician always told me never put milk in bottles, only breast milk or formula. As you wean from the bottles, wean from formula. Give milk in a sippy. You also should never put cereal in a bottle unless there is a medical reason for it. Sorry, not trying to be mean, just trying to give you info. If she likes eating the baby cereal, let her keep eating it. They need the cereal until at least one year of age, but if she likes it, give it to her. Mine ate it longer too. Let her keep her binky until she is well off the bottle. Don't take too much away at once. I got my first one off it around 18 months or so. I started my telling him he could only have it in his crib....boy was he easy to put to bed at night :) He LOVED going to bed because he knew he could have his "nu nu" :) Good Luck with the bottle thing, it is hard, talk to your doctor or the WIC lady if you need extra help, that is what they are here for.

My son will be 1 on Dec. 1st.! Anyway I took him off the bottle at 10mon and cereal. Now he is on a sippy and I have already started milk about a week ago. I am going to let him keep his pacifier for a while because my older son just threw it away one day so maybe he will do that to. Try the Nuby soft top sippy it is an easier transition for them . Good luck!

The cereal should of been stopped ages ago, she does not need it. I dont see why any baby needs it like that. Cereal is a breakfast food. The bottle should of been weaned a little while ago as well she should now be drinking out of a sippy cup and no you should not stop the milk but now just give it to her in a sippy cup. Jeez my son isnt even 12 months old yet and I know all this stuff, don't you people research this sort of stuff?

I took my daughter off formula at 9 months. I was spending over $30 a week on it and I couldn't afford it. I took her bottle away at 14 months and gave her a sippy. We also started giving her a cup to use during meals after she turned 1.

I hope that the cereal isn't what is causing her to sleep. That would make it hard for her when you take it away.

My daughter is almost 2 and still has a sippy. It keeps things a lot cleaner then having her spill stuff all over the carpet. We also just got rid of her night and naptime sippy's a couple months ago and then last month we got rid of the binkie. Its ok that she has it as long as it isn't hurting her teeth.

Before you take it all away. Think about what you would do if you had 4 of your favorite things that you have had since birth taken away from you. Never to get them back. Scary.

I'm a father and what works for one kid don't always work for another but i took the bottle and replaced it with a sippy cup, you can still give the baby the cereal if you want but i replaced it also with table food you can use something like mashed patatoes or something, as for binkie i let my kids keep it at night for a little while longer but only at night

Why is she still on cereal? Isnt she eating table foods yet?

My son is 10 months and he hasnt used bottles since he was 7 months. He hasnt had cereal since he was 3 months old. He went from cereal to baby food jars to real food. He eats table food (whatever we're eating) and drinks milk from a sippy. He nurses a couple times a day, he's not a formula baby, but the bottles he used for a while for other drinks.

I would do it little by little. Get her used to more table food and drinking from a sippy and eventually just get rid of the other. I would certainly stop her on formula, just keep making it less and less each day, and by her birthday she wont need it anymore.

I'd toss the bottles all at one time, get through that, and then toss the binkies.

I completely just took the bottle from her the day she turned one and handed her a cup. She couldn't have cared less lol. But leave the binkie for just a few months, all at once may be really hard on her. The cereal she really can do without.

my aunt did it three weeks apart... giving a baby milk before they are one is said to be bad, and im going to take all my daughters stuff away the day after her birthday... kinda mean on her birthday to take away everything... also make sure you dont get her to substitute a sippy cup for a bottle...she has to suck on it, it has liquid in it, it is a lot like her bottle and the attachment could carry over to the new object... i would only give her a sippy at mealtime and maybe give her drinks out of a normal glass throughout the day, glasses are for drinking not for comfort...

From experience, do not do it all at one time. And make sure you take it slowly. bottles and binkies are comfort items. Taking them away all at once will traumatizes the child. They need something they can fall back on. I would leave the binkie till absolute last. That will be the hardest. good luck

I'd do it gradually. I'm confused about when she gets cereal -- you mean just before nap and bedtime? I mean, there's no downside to fortified baby cereal per se. I could never get my kids to eat it, but there's nothing harmful about continuing past one year.
