I would strongly advise that you go to another Dr. This happened to a friend of mine, she was 8 weeks and they told her that there was either no heartbeat or no baby (phantom pregnancy) and to go straight from the Dr's rooms to the hospital to have a D&C. She did not as she knew she was pregnant. She waited and went to a different Dr and at 14 weeks they heard that little heart beating strong. That baby is now a beautiful, healthy, active 3yr old little girl. If you think you are pregnant and have had positive pregnancy test then just to make sure-Go and see someone else. Dr's aren't god-They can and do get things wrong. Good luck with everything.

At 8 weeks the heart IS developed enough to hear a heartbeat. However, you are only able to hear it via ultrasound. And that can be the regular one on your belly or the vaginal one( usually done when you're as early as you are). If your doctor tried using the regular old doppler( hand held machine) then no, you aren't going to hear a heartbeat until at least 12 weeks and even that depends on the position of the baby and placenta. If the doc used either of the ultrasound methods and there was no detectable beat, then I'm sorry, you did lose the baby. But if the doc used the doppler, I'd request either an ultrasound, a second opinion, or to just wait a few more weeks. Good luck.

My advice is that there is no hope of keeping this baby I'm so sorry to say. If they haven't seen a heartbeat at 8 weeks then it's most certain that the baby hasn't survived. A heartbeat can be seen between 6 & 7 weeks on an ultrasound. I've had 2 miscarriages and both times when I had an ultrasound there was no heartbeat.
I would suggest having a d&c before thebleeding starts as it is a very horrible and painful experience to go through.
I wish you all the best for the future.

First thing you should be asking is to have your hCG levels tested every 48 hours! This is a true sign of either a viable or nonviable pregnancy within the first 14 weeks. Do NOT carry through with a D&C until you feel 100% that this baby is not living inside of you with a strong, healthy heartbeat. Sometimes it does take a while to find the heartbeat for a variety of reasons......you may have a tilted uterus, the baby may be younger than expected, or you may have an inexperienced tech or poor machine....it could be none or all of those. Just make sure you're 100% comfortable....if you're not...by all means seek a second opinion! This is your baby, your body!!
Best of luck!!

I'm sorry for your bad news. If you will feel better getting a second opinion, by all means get one. But, if you have been reading up on pregnancy, you would know that by 8 weeks, the heart is fully developed, with 4 chambers, and pumping away. If your doctor didn't hear the heart, unfortunately it could be true.
Did they do an ultrasound?

You may not be as far along as you think you are and that is why the heart wasn't beating yet. Also it's still so small that it may just be hard to detect way down in the pelvis. Get a second opinion to ease your mind in another week or so and go from there. If you can't get a heart beat in a few more weeks chances are you have had a miscarrage. Hope all goes well.

Go see another doctor. If it was just a doppler (on the outside of your belly) they WONT hear the heart beat for a long time yet.
If it was an internal ultrasound and they couldnt see or hear the heartbeat its probably a loss.
You need to give more information, and go see a different doctor.

at 8 weeks, it is hard to find the heartbeat.. even if it is beating.. my doctor told me it was a 50% chance to hear it at my first appointment (at 9 weeks), and I am VERY skinny.. underweight.. if you have some weight, it makes it harder.. and the baby is so TINY inside of you, sometimes they just can't find it yet. I would definitely go to another doctor and get an ultrasound done.
FOLLOW YOUR HEART ! get a second opinion immediately, and demand an ultrasound.. ;)
good luck!
