20 years, so Abe Lincoln was referring to 87 years ago.

"score" is an amount, not a length, equal to 20, so a score of years, a score of eggs = 20 years, 20 eggs. "4 score and seven years ago" = 4*20 + 7 = 87 years ago.

20 years. So the above would be 87 years ago. Lincoln made that speech in 1863, so if you go back 87 years it will be 1776 which is why he said it. Interesting huh? That's the year we declared our independence from England.
