My 97 Honda Accord (EX 4 Cylinder) just recently started having real problems accelerating. It'll kick in up to 2000rpm or so and then afterwards just rev all the way up to 6000 without going any faster. I'll top off at like 25-30mph, but that's even a struggle to get it to that speed. Most of the time it just sits and has problems going up to 10mph and the engine just revs after that.

I read a couple other posts and people said it's probabably a transmission problem so was just wondering what other ways to possibly test the problem before taking it to the shop.

Yah, it's pretty much giving up on me. Now it barely kicks into gear (mainly only when I turn off the car and turn it back on does it sometimes catch) and only really revs without going anywhere.

I guess I'm trying to just better inform myself so I don't get ripped off from this local 76 station if I can make it there. Any tips or info on steps to take would be appreciated!

that's your transmission slipping....soon it won't move at all...except maybe in reverse

There's a sensor on automatic transmissions that basically checks what gears should be shifted.. My friend experienced the same thing, had it replaced and things worked fine. good luck.

Sounds like its time for a tune up. Cap,rotor, spark plugs, and wires. Is your coolant temp up is so then the tranny will act funny also. Your tranny fluid goes through it and the heat could affect it.
