what would this tell you if it happened to you??

Your true love who claims to love you honestly and completly stood by and let his drunk mother say bad things about you.. (when she knows absolutley nothing about you except that you make her son happy) for him to NOT SAY A WORD TO HER ABOUT IT.. and his reasoning to me is that she was drunk.. should i just accept this as no big deal or do i have a right to feel very betrayed by him for not telling or asking his mom not to be like that???

how would you feel... male and female answers neeed.
p.s NOT a teenage or young relationship this man is 38 years old ! ! !

I love my mother very much and have a great relationship with her but if she did that I would have to let her know that she crossed the wrong line. I don't care if she was drunk or not! If I love someone and ANYONE talks trash about them I WILL stand up for her.

P.S. I'm 40!!

I can understand why you feel betrayed, but I can also see why his loyalties were divided!
As she was drunk, he would only have aggravated her and not solved anything by defending you!
He is obviously used to these situations with his mum, and knows how she'll react and how to deal with her, and it must have been like water off a duck's back to him!
I wouldn't worry about this, as it shows that he is a gentle and placid man, who doesn't get angry easily, which is a good thing, as it means he most probably won't turn out like his mum!
I'll bet his mum doesn't even remember what she said in her drunken state!
I hope this helps!

Dear Ann Landers: In reply to your question I would simply take her for what she is, a shovel headed toothless drunk. For all we know she was hammered when he was copulated, which may help explain some of the communication problems. Maybe you should go out and buy her a case of Old Milwaukee and some toilet paper. Enjoy.....

I have been in a similar situation. My exboyfriends mom didnt like me because of my ethnicity. She wasnt drunk when she let me know it. He just ignored her, but it still hurt my feelings that he wouldnt tell her that it was wrong of her to say that. After being around her a bit more, she realized that I wasnt all ghetto and gangster and she actually ended up liking me.

You can nag all you want, but he will only say something if he wants to.

I would be hurt and angry, but since she doesn't know anything about you and had no personal reason to say these things, I would accept "she was drunk" as no big deal. If she says things like that when she's sober I would confront her and see what the problem is.

First of all you should be pissed. If was me i would blow it off at first, then later on i would make a really big deal out of it. Because i do not like people talking junk about my friends or any one of that nature. And especially if they were drunk. Actually, if i was you i probably would have told her to shut the hell up and get on up out of my face. Then i would look at your boyfriend and said thanks for nothing.

Well, because he said "she was drunk," and that was his excuse, I think it's pretty shameful of him. I was thinking maybe he felt it would be better not to get between the two most important women of his life, and/or that maybe he didn't feel an obligation to speak up because you weren't even speaking up for yourself (and as an adult, I think it would be your responsibility to do so). However, his excuse was "she was drunk," and to me... that doesn't jibe with what a good boyfriend would do.
