I would love to see the old Yankee Stadium made into a baseball museum. It would be a wonderful attraction for baseball fan all over the country.
In terms of "state of the art" ball parks, the old Yankee Stadium has long since past it's prime. A good example would be comparing it to the new Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The new Phillies ball park is a great place to watch a game. Comfortable, fan friendly. Every seat in the house is great.
The new Yankee Stadium is being built along the same lines. Everyone will be closer to the field and the seating arrangements will be a lot better.
As far as the old Yankee Stadium, it is a national landmark and I hope the powers to be will consider that before destroying it. A lesson learned was taken when Ebbets Field was turned into a parking lot. Let's not make the same mistake again.

Money is a big reason. So are improved facilities for everyone - players, media, fans. As much history as there is at the current park, in many ways it's also a dump. To renovate it again just makes no financial or engineering sense.
Despite what Brian B above me said, the new Yankee Stadium will not have a retractable roof and the current Yankee Stadium will be torn down and turned into parkland.

Hold up. There not taking it down. Yankee Stadium is a national landmark and will stand the test of time.
In 2009, the Yankees will be playing at the New Yankees Stadium, which is being built right across from the Old Yankees Stadium. The Yankees Stadium hasn't been renovated since it reopened in 1976. There have been plans for a new Yankee Stadium since 1999. It will have a rettractable roof like the one in Bankone ballpark, Miller Park and Safeco Field. It will also be wider and not have the nose bleed seats of the old stadium. The thought building another stadium would be easier than renovating the old stadium.

the two Stadiums have become the wrecking ball. it rather is undesirable. they're advertising seats from the stadiums, signs and indicators, or maybe dirt from the sector. actually. there is plenty history at Yankee Stadium, and that they are only gonna rip it to the floor like it does not advise something. this is why i'm taping Yankee video games this season, because of the fact this is the only actual season and it will likely be a great reminiscence to have.

Because in 2009 they will be moving into the New Yankee Stadium, as well as the Mets will be moving into a new stadium in 09.

They're in the process of building a new Yankee Stadium. The Steinbrenners think that with more room and more space will come more people and more money. Its basically all about the money. If you want more info and want to see the progress go here: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/ballpark/index.jsp

I've been going to Yankee Stadium since the 1960's. It's a nice ppace to visit but its hell to see a ballgame at. The seats suck and the tunnels for refreshments lack comfort. Ok its a hallowed venue but enough already. I can't wait for the new ball park to open.

If you didn't know already, they're in the process of creating a new Yankee Stadium. There's obviously going to be a new one, but they need to make a new one because supposedly it was getting old, and/or they need more seats & room for things.

Its all about money. That's what all this is about. Steinbrenner doesn't really care for the history of a stadium as long as he is making money. He thinks that with a new stadium, he will get more money to spend on getting every good player in the league. It is sad that it comes down to this, but I think that's all that Steinbrenner really cares about.
