It happens every month - the moon is in "new moon" phase (meaning we don't see the sunlit side).
When the position of the moon in its orbit is just right, it can pass in front of the sun and we have a solar eclipse. But since the moon's orbit is tilted to the Earth's equator, a solar eclipse doesn't happen every month (it can only happen about twice a year when the moon crosses Earth's equator).

It's called a solar eclipse and is relatively rare. the moon will cover the sun so it will be almost pitch black out, even during a sunny day. It's really cool.

That would be a solar eclipse. It will look like night except there will be a ring of light in the sky.
Don't look at it, it could make you blind.
