Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew if you have to have an agent to get with equity? As i feel it would help me on my search for one to be with equity to make me more professional (and cover myself).

Hope you can help. Thanks.

Actors' Equity Association is the union representing professional stage actors and stage managers in the United States. Having an agent is not a requirement for joining the union.

Some actors join Equity when a theatre offers them a union contract. If you get an offer like that, it means that the theatre can't hire you as a non-union actor, and thinks you're good enough that they're willing to pay you union rates, which are substantially higher than the wages earned by many non-Equity actors. You have to pay a fee to join Equity; often the theatre that gives you your first Equity contract will arrange to withhold part of each paycheck and send the money to the union until your fee is paid.

Some actors join through the Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) program. This involves paying a fee that is much smaller than the union initiation fee, then working for 50 weeks for theatres that are authorized to give EMC points. You get one point for every week that you act with such a theatre. When you've accumulated your 50 points, you can pay your initiation fee and join the union. The money you paid to join the EMC program counts toward the larger fee you have to pay to become a union member.

You can get more information at the union's website.

You dont have to be equity to get an agent unless you want a stage agent. Unless your older, equity wont help you get more roles or whatever. trust me i thought the same thing and it didnt work out. dont waste your money one it. Just focus on building up your resume if you want to be an actor.

You get a card because you deserve one by using youracting adventure and so forth. So do no longer permit some "fancy" agent con you. no count what, your threat is slender regardless of drama college. There are 1000's of 1000's of actors obtainable devoid of playing cards, no jobs and no authentic prospect of ever getting the two. in case you opt for to connect them, ok, yet do no longer anticipate miracles.
