Hi, my son is 17 and needs a physical exam done. Does anyone here know of any good doctors in the Baltimore or surrounding areas? I moved here from York PA and was hoping to find one.

Its hard to find a QUALITY doctor these days. I want to find a doctor that will actually make him undress for the exam and do a FULL physical including a genital/testicular exam.

This post is not meant to be funny, but Ive seen time and time again these doctors who do a literal 5 min physical exam. WTH is that about??

I just feel like we are shortchanging our families for quality care. I know generations back doctors didnt hesitate to do throughrough exams especially on kids.

Id appreciate any help on this. I am either looking for a Peds doctor or Family medicine.

While I cannot suggest a specific doctor, I can offer a few thoughts. First off, you are right; more often than not a physical consists of heart and lungs, ears and eyes anf if lucky maybe a probe of the upper abdomen. Unlike the old days when even the small bits got thoroughly checked.

I might suggest a male doctor since they tend to be more familiar with male anatomy. And why not make an appointment for some minor ailment of your own first to sort of interview the doctor. Ask them right out if they do full exams including genitals or not. And if they say they normally don't ask if they will. Some doctors who don't make it a practice will upon request. If a doctor says no, cross them off the list and try another one.

Once you find th eright doctor, then make th eappointment with the doctor and tell him to make sure he does one really thorough physical on your son.

Not sure of the relationship with your son but if it's really close you could even go along and make sure the full thing is done. Then again if you two are well bonded, why not both go for full physicals. Thatr way you have a new topic to discuss after.

Anyway, I admire you for wanting yoru son to have proper medical examination. I hope you find a good doctor to meet yoru expectations.

You might talk to your co-workers. Does your company have an electronic bulletin board and if so, does it have suggestions?

BTW, there is a growing cadre of physicians who took a med-ped residency and should be skilled in examining teens.
