x = adults
25 - x = children
8x + 6(25-x) = 188
8x +150 -6x = 188
2x = 38
x = 19 = adults
25- x = 6 = children

Well... u can start by noting
A = number of adults present at the performance
C = number of children present at the performance

There were 25 people at the performance, so the first equation is
A + C = 25
The theater collected 188 $ from ticket sales, and if the tickets cost 8 $ for adults and 6 $ for kids, then:
8A + 6C = 188

Then u start solving the equation system:
A = 25 - C and you replace this formula into the second equation:
8 (25 - C) + 6C = 188
200 - 8C + 6C = 188
-2C = -12
2C = 12
C = 6
and A = 25 - 6 = 19
So there were 19 adults and 6 children at that performance! :)
