It could be two musicians collaborating on one song, or a so-called "Supergroup", or anything in between.

I knew there was a book and a film called "The Devil Wears Prada", but I never knew there was a band too!

You should check out The Polyphonic Spree, in particular their most recent album, "The Fragile Army". I think you'd like them, and they fit the description of "rock orchestra". There's about 20 people in the band.

I guess you were wrong about the thumbs down :) Your answer reminded me of two other really good collaborations; Michael Jackson with Eddie Van Halen (Beat It) and Slash with Lenny Kravitz (Always on the Run).

Yeah, Postal Service is another great choice for this one. As for more recent stuff, Jimmy Tamborello (the other half of Postal service) put out an album of collaborations this year under the name Dntel, which features a track with Jenny Lewis. Good album.

Yeah, that's them. The song you heard was most likely "Running Away". Kinda surprised you didn't like it, but I guess it's just down to personal preference.

I'll prob. get thumbs down for this but oh well, hehe.

Madonna and Prince collaborated on a track called Love Song, which i adore.

Michael Jackson and Slash collaborated on a song called "Give in to Me".
It's one of his lesser known - but better songs [to me anyway]. It's amazing.

Alice Cooper and Shannon Hoon [of Blind Melon, may he rest in peace] sing on the Guns N' Roses song "The Garden", which is one of my favourite GN'R songs.

=]

edit; it seems so. I usually get quite a few if i mention Prince, Madonna or MJ.
I was going to mention "Always on the Run", and another they did together called "Fields of Joy". I have many more favourites but my answers always seem to be longer than everyone elses, i don't want to appear long winded.. but i can't help it haha.

Delerium and Sarah McLachlan's 'Silence'.

Blackmore's Night with Joe Lynn Turner covering Rainbow's
'Street Of Dreams'.

Led Zeppelin and Sandy Denny on 'Stairway to Heaven'.
She was the only guest performer they ever had.

Pink Floyd and Clare Torry on 'The Great Gig in the Sky'.

Dave Stewart and Candy Dulfer : 'Lily Was Here'.

Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty singing 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around', which also was the only song on her solo album to be played entirely by The Heartbreakers.

Dire Straits and Sting on 'Money For Nothing'.

The Foo Fighters and Brian May covering Pink Floyd's
'Have A Cigar'.

It's a little known fact that Prince played keyboards on the studio / album version of the Stevie Nicks song 'Stand Back'.

Bono (with Edee/Eno of the genius U2) and the late great Luciano Pavarotti They performed the music "pass over Sarajevo" jointly stay (among others) at a Conspiracy of desire stay overall performance in Modena in September 1995. The unchallenged mastery of U2 blended with the vocal genius of Pavarotti, (and a stay objective audience surroundings), made this music in order that beautiful that tears can flow! that's attainable on the U2 album "Duets". although, no longer all collaborations are useful, although that's probably basically a remember of opinion. the comparable U2 performed their magnificent unique hit "One" (off Achtung toddler) in collaboration with Mary J Blige (I had to "google" her call it grew to become into that undesirable for my section!) After the genius of the 1991 unique, I worry this test in around 2007 grew to become right into a failure with the vocal varieties of Bono and Blige in simple terms no longer mixing. Blige is an R&B, Hip Hop and Soul artist and for those hardcore U2 followers no longer into those generes that's a hard pill to swallow. This failure to blend the two varieties in simple terms did no longer come off, spoiling an in any different case miraculous unique. The latter explaination is likewise section argument for what makes a collaboration useful. Clashing varieties (generes) do no longer continuously artwork. a remember of opinion and musical flavor! I'm quite fond of most collaborations involving Iggy Pop (w/ Kate Pierson of the B-52's doing "Candy" and Merrill Beth Nisker (Peaches) doing "Kick It").

And it wouldn't be me if I didn't mention something involving PJ Harvey : ) She worked with Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age for one of his Dessert Sessions projects and I'm particularly fond of the song "Crawl Home".

It's really quite a clever idea - sounds almost like Rock-N-Roll Camp. Countless other musicians have collaborated on these projects (Mark Lanegan, Dean Ween, Jeordie White, etc.).

Oh, and I can't forget U.N.K.L.E. feat. Thom Yorke "Rabbit In Your Headlights" - amazing song!

Great call Sookie! I adore that track on White Pony : )
