Does the advancement of science and technology save or destroy humanity?

I always thought this was a boggling question, as you may have noticed we are a generation who have become highly dependent on technology. Teenagers especially are constantly on the computer, txting, iming... we start to lose face to face communications. Our use of ipods and computers require energy, the more energy, the more CO2 is emitted, which is the cause of global warming. Advancement of science and tech have also allowed countries to build nuclear bombs which cud ultimately destroy a whole nation. Human cloning is also becoming more popular, but it can radically alter human nature.
Yet, this advancement has also led to further studies and cures on cancer and diseases. Internet lets us know what goes around the world, satellites can warn us about storms, it basically allows us to live our life easier. But we have become so dependent on it.
So which do u lean towards more? Does it saves us, or will it utlimately destroy us? And if you can provide some examples in your argument.

It is a double edge sword. Help and hurt in every way.

With technology scientist can make a vaccination to most disease (not all). It also make thing easier to access to and
improve human life ( freezer, radio, tv)
But the consequence that come with technology can also be harmful. CO2 from car, train, factory, and even the freezer cause global warming. To make thing worse trees are being chopped down to make place for land ( which is a very stupid thing to do because tree can help in a lot of way, which I wont' name but most of you know the basic, it absorb CO2 and release Oxygen). Not only are we harming the environment, we also harming other countries because the waste land here is filled so it is being shipped to another countries and dump there. It is very hard to say whether about advancement of science and technology save or destroy humanity because it is doing both at the same time. It is a question that baffles many people ( including me).

Science and technology can be used for good and bad purposes, so it could be either.
