Go to www.freecycle.org.
This site was designed to keep things from being thrown into landfills- it's things that people do not want, but they don't want to see it go to the trash, and they don't want to give it to charity- they want to see it go to someone who can use it, and for free. When you go to this site, you can sign up for your local freecycle emails, and see what other people are getting rid of. I've never actually received any of the items, but a friend of mine received a couch from freecycle. Please, however, read the safety tips, and be very cautious.

Other ideas... I know you said you have NO money for gifts, so let's look at how you might be able to generate a little extra money. Do you have any CD's, music, or other media that is not being used? If so, take these to a local store and see if you can sell them for cash. Same goes for clothing items that you no longer use- any old formal wear hanging in the back of your closet?- can you take it to a consignment shop?

Also, if you drink soda out of aluminum cans, you can take it to your local scrapyard (after you have saved a lot of it), and sell it for cash.

Finally, there are local charities that stand at the ready to help you in this situation.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas!

Well, being together on Christmas is most important. You could also try toys for tots, they have gifts even for the teens. If there is a Catholic Charities in your town, you could talk with them and see if there is a Christmas gift program. You don't necessarily have to be Catholic to get aid from them. You could also go to Salvation Army and see about getting some gifts through them and for the Christmas dinner, you could go to a homeless shelter and help serve dinner and then get a meal for your family as well.

Other things that will brighten his day are to go see Christmas lights in the area, see a child in the hospital on Christmas, and maybe go caroling. All of these things are intangible gifts but they are ones that he will never forget because they warm the heart.

Explain to you son, why you can't afford to buy him much for Christmas. Don't let him believe that he was bad, and therefore gets nothing. Tell him the truth. Then register him on one of the lists in your town, that gives to kids who needs gifts. In our town, it is called Toys for Tots. Most people are generous at this time of year, for the kids. Even though I hate this season, since it is such a farce, it would be nice if you son could have a few gifts. Could you find a part time job, just enough to buy him something, if there are no charities in your town. Just another reason for me not liking this season. It causes hard feelings for those who have little. All for a pagan holiday.
