x/-9 +10 = 11

If "a number" is x, then the quotient of x and -9 would be x/-9. Increasing by 10 is the same as adding 10. So, we have (x/-9)+10=11. We can then solve this by subtracting 10 from both sides, so (x/-9)=1. Then, multiply both sides by -9. So x=-9.

let x be your number.

the quotient of x and -9 becomes x/-9

that quotient increased by 10 becomes x/-9 + 10

is 11 becomes = 11 so you have x/-9 + 10 = 11

this means x/-9 = 11 - 10 = 1

so x = -9(1)

therefore x = -9
