There comes a time where your friend refuses to help themself. You have saved their butt over and over again and again. Eventually, you will come to realize that you have done everything you could to help them and ther is nothing else you can do but hope they figure it out. Sometimes people really need to hit rock bottom to get their lives straight and sometimes, they never do. As much as you want to help the friend, you have to decide for yourself when too much is too much and draw the line.

I am 36 y/o and I have friend that I have known for 35.5 yrs..
We lived next door to each other since birth until we were 18-19 yrs old. He is still to this day my best friend. I had to cut things off between us due to some very bad habbits that he developed. He finally lost everything and did some time in jail. Got professional help for his addictions and is back on top of the world. I didn't think about giving up, just cutting it off. I knew that he would either end up dead or back on his feet... Fortunatly, I was smart enough to know that I had no controll over what happened... I just knew he wasn't taking me with him!

I didn't exactly give up on my friend, but I we just went our separate ways. We still go to the same school, and talk every now and then, but I have a different best friend. The best way to give up on a friend is to tell them. Just be polite and talk straight to her/his face, no lies. You'll both know the truth and if your friend was a friend in the first place, he/she will understand. <3 Good Luck!

I am thinking of doing that soon, becuase my best friend has been looking down on me lots lately. Not because I am shorter than her... Because she thinks she is way better and smarter than I am. No problem! She became friends with my husband's danderious ex. True friends don't let each other down, don't they!

Well I realized that she wasn't someone I should be hanging out with because of her bad decisions. I just told her that we shouldn't be friends anymore.

I once did, because we needed to, to put limits on things, that you cannot do these things or that thing because you really can't, I/we have set these boundaries to avoid hurting each others feelings and others too.
We limited by seing each other, or calling each other, we didn't fight. I/we just have to talk if we really needed to. ( it's a HER)
