2 to 3 months.
shorter: go to physical therapy 3x a week, see your doctor to recommend a good one. it may only take a month then.
during basketball, do drills that will build muscle, but don't require much running and active movement and sudden turns.
i play soccer and i pulled my groin, i was out for 3 months with phys. therapy 3x a week. i did simple passing drills during my off time, and i was back in 2 1/2 months. a strain isn't as serious, so it shouldn't take that long. try icing it and relaxing it, as well as stretching it slightly. during practice, do shooting and a little movement, but don't do any sharp turns or you could tear it. do go see your doctor though and you'll be back in a month.

Yeah, well no more sporting activities, and about 2-4 weeks. Can try warm compresses to loosen the muscles then cool compresses. Might be a shorter healing time.
