In New York State the minimum wage is $7.15. There is a Federal Minimum wage, but some cities and states set a wage higher than the Federal minimum.

30 states have state minimums higher than the federal. All employers should have posters posted with the information. WA might be either 7.50 or 7.85 something like that. Federal I think is 5.85 up from 5.15 not long ago. Hardly anyone gets the minimum for more than a few weeks before they earn the first raise and most places pay more than that to start. I think fast food starts at 8 or 8.50 and the homeless day labor places pay 8.50.

There is a federal minimum wage (which they are raising, by the way). I believe a few months ago it was raised from $5.15 to $5.85. In a few more months they are moving it to $6.55, and finally, in a few more months, to $7.25.

I think some blue states may have higher minimum wages, but most states just use the Federal standards.
