I've worked as wardrobe head for several productions, and the common remedies among the actors for sore throat or strain, was gargling w/warm salt water, and drinking lemon tea w/honey.

I've used both myself, and they seem to help quite a bit w/raw irritated throat and/or laryngitis. Hope this helps. Break a leg!

-Warm drinks with honey and lemon are particularly soothing.
-Gargle with a salt solution. Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of water, gargle for 20-30 seconds and spit it out.

Celestial Seasons has an Echinacea Tea that is wonderful with honey. It really helped my throat when I had strep.

1)Cook an onion and drink the broth
2) Zinc lozenges
3) Chili peppers help, too
My favorite and the one that works wonders is something nobody else wants to do: chew and swallow a clove of garlic raw.
