To the critics of whatever we do I would say-S*d you all we will not help or 'interfere' in any of the worlds trouble spots
We will become 'isolationists' which we have been before and just defend our own country.
Then see what happens!

As a Brit I would say, we are allies and have been for a while what affects you affects us too. No decision to go into the world's troubled spots are made lightly. America and Britain have both been hit by terrorists and have a right to defend ourselves and each other. I feel for those who's family members are away in these areas, but they made that choice, they know this can happen at any moment, they were not forced to join the army, navy or airforces.

One thing that could be done to counteract extremism - a massive investment in good rounded education and health provision in 3rd world and muslim countries. The schools and colleges would offer such a good education that wise people would be keen to accept the education. A problem at the moment is that Saudi oil wealth has been used to spread extremist education in many countries, also religious schools (madrassas) are teaching biased views of reality and encouraging hatred of non-mohammedans.
The battle is really 'in the mind'. If people take in wholesome thoughts, and lose insecurities, they start rejecting bent ideologies.

America is globally intertwined with the world. Other people do not sit idle, they may just be more realistic about humanity. For the pursuit of resources and security we have dug ourselves in deep around the world. At what point do we not produce enough food to feed us?
Isolationism is not very realistic, and would probably cause us to have even more enemies. We wouldn't survive very long without oil to fill gas tanks that bring food to our stores.

Why are there so many people who are anti American on yahoo answers? There are many countries out there who are worse than the states.
Even in the past most Western European countries have done a lot worse than the states are doing now.

We must remember that it is NOT the American people in general who "interfere". Like us in Britain, it's the government, and their President, who are the war mongers. Then when anything kicks off, they go and hide themselves in a bunker, and let "joe public" do the dirty work. We should ALL stop voting, and see what happens when they realise no one supports their petty wars.

Anjanna, I don't know which comic book you get your facts from, but the US runs a huge trade DEFICIT each year. I support withdrawing to our borders and cutting off imports of cheap crap from all the rest of the world.

Americans are welcomed in all the nations as businessman to do business in mutual benefits but not as military to enter and to check the not to be seen 'Weapons of Mass Destruction', throwing
away the Government, install a puppet and kill the President and his family and in the process death to 4000 soldiers and 15000 to loose limbs and to have the steel frame fitted legs and hands to lead a miserable life in home !
It is irrefutable that America has killed more than Hitler and Stalin combined from the start of WWII to till date, including the killing of 200000 Japanese by atom bombs and 56,000 innocent men, women and children, by two days bombing of the city Dresden in Germany on the day after the war was stopped in all the fronts, when the German troops were fully surrendered! Add to it, the one million Koreans and four million Vietnamese killed in wars waged by USA in the fifties and sixties!
Apart from all these, the US Government has overthrown governments in Asia, Africa, Central and Latin America for the past six decades by backing military dictatorship, one party rule and even Monarchs while claiming itself as the champion of free world!
America is in fact the beneficiary in all of its bilateral trade with second and third world nations to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, with all the GATT and WTO laws and practice to its support, maintaining a unbalanced world economic order, to achieve all in it's favor! So, a part of the money exploited is only paid back as aid to these poor nations!
To: Nattering NABOB:
The trade deficit of USA in bilateral trade is not with the nations whom the USA is exploiting in billions but with countries like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Germany and France and of late the mainland China too joined in this group! In fact the two sides of the coin to be seen, that USA has given China the MFN status and now we have the news:
China's exports to the United States of $288 billion in 2006 were six times greater than U.S. exports to China, which were only $52 billion!
We in India is at lost in trade with US while poor quality Chinese goods are invading your market, earning billions, purely by the policies pursued by your Congress! Our goods are of high quality and cost three to ten times than the cost of China which you people don’t want to trade and benefit!
