Windex is ammonia which will kill your fish as bleach is chlorine. A good option would be white vinegar, commercial aquarium glass cleaner, or a paper towel made of completely recycled unbleached paper.

with vinegar just apply to a clean rag and rub the glass then thoroughly rinse with water.

commercial aqarium cleaners follow directions.

paper towel just rub the glass and rinse off.

if your buying a new aqarium and want to clean it and disinfect it use 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and let sit for and hour or more then rinse thoroughly and add declorinator solution to a paper towel and scrubthen filll the tank and quintuple the declorinator's amount of declorinator per gallon to the amount of it needed to regualarly treat the water in the tank. this willl make your tank clean and clear the tank of any bacteria and or parasites.

No! The residue would kill them. You can use a mixture of white vinegar and water and rinse it well and then it should be OK. Also, if the tank is already full with fish you can buy this thing to clean the inside of the glass at petstores (even wal mart, i think). It's two strong magnets connected by a string, one has a scrubby thing on it - it cleans algae off the glass.

no its not a good idea to use glass cleaner in an aquarium. do not use any chemicals. unless they are specifically for fish aquariums. the chemicals will kill your fish they use the water to breath and they will be breathing in chemicals from the water. if you want to clean your tank start by using warm water when the glass gets warm u can put hot water. don't go from cold to hot or vise versa cu you will end up cracking your tank. good luck

Absolutely not! If you have an empty tank you can clean it with a container of salt. Pour in the container of salt then add just enough water to make it wet and pasty. Then with your clean hand rub the salt around to remove old algae and other slime. After you are done rinse out the tank with your garden hose and then you are ready for the set up.

It's not. Bleach will kill them, as will glass cleaner. You could use a gravel vacuum (check petsmart or another pet store for info on those) for a general cleanup, or you MIGHT (I'm not sure) be able to use a new sponge, but you'd probably have to be careful.

Do not be STUPID!

The ecological answer is water snails and bottom feeders. Quick cleaning can be best effected with a razor blade mounted on a piece of mechano bar.

You can buy these contraptions in any decent aquarium supply shop.

depends, if you are happy for your fish to be floating on their backs for a few days, if so, then yep, should be fine!
It will certainly get your tank clean, so if that means it is good, then yes it is good.
Not so sure whether you would want this stuff going into our own water system though, I wonder what it does to the rivers and seas when it reaches them? Hmmmm
