The moon and the earth revolve around a common point so it in effect acts as a pendulum bob to regulate our spinning and movement around the sun. The sun and moon pull on our oceans so they influence our tides. The moon also plays an important part in our daily lives.

Lunatic - a crazy person thought to be affected by the moon. Though the gravitational pull may affect the water in our bodies, and in turn this may make us crazy, this effect is from the distance and position of the moon and not to any particular phase (ie. full moon)

Month - based upon a derivitive of the word moon

measurement of time - to measure from one phase to another (start of our MOONthly calendar)

Moon causes tides on the earth. Tides played a big part on the evolution of living beings. First there was life only on the seas. Then due to high tides came, fishes moved to land. Later some of them learned to live in land.
28days human female period depend upon moon cycle. Also term lunatics evolved from moon. Madness increases on full moon day

The gravitational force of the moon causes the change in tides, which affects fishing patterns. The reflected light from the full moon enables nighttime activities that would not otherwise be possible without an artificial light source.

And, of course, what would all the werewolves do without a full moon to cause their transformations? (Just kidding, hubby!!)

In addition to being entirely responsible for the tides due to its gravitational pull, it also:

1) Causes solar eclipses
2) Lights the night. When it's a full moon and a clear sky, it does well enough to navigate outside. Even better when the moonlight reflects off a snowcover. Almost like daylight then.

Hope we passed the audition.

Okay, this one's for your husband:

It's a great source of cheese!

But seriously, in addition to all the other good answers, the moon has had an enormous effect on the people of the Earth. Particularly poets, song writers and couples in love.

The Moon's gravity contributes to the tides, but the Sun contributes too. This is why tides are higher at new and full moons, when the Moon and Sun line up.

Life exists on Earth, because the moon's gravitational properies eliminating the meteorological extremities on here.
Without the Moon, Earth would have just gigantic storms, almost as hostile to life as the Venus is.

It causes the tides for one thing, and gives a description for crazy people (lunatics) It also helps with night vision goggles. Now ask him if his sports shows are as informative :)

The moon causes the tides to change and it also effects weather due to its gravitational pull.
