If you own a dog, and a horse, here is what I have seen work for my Mennonite neighbours
Strap on saddlebags size appropriate for both animals.
Put speakers in the bags and hook up a sound system to each animal. You can use a boom box. We all should have a few of those around.
Put in a death or black metal CD on 9 to 12 volume and let the dog and horse roam around the yard for awhile as you are getting your ammo ready.
Check 30 minutes later. You can instantly tell if the squirrels are rabid!! The ones that are clinging to the speakers with their teeth clamped together squealing and shaking are the rabid ones. the others will just be banging their heads together or throwing each other around . Some may even be wearing Dr. Martin's if they are old.

They foam at the mouth and their eyes go red. Read Cujo, then apply the dog's symptoms to a squirrel.
