when most of the time they determine if you win or not. it just doesn't seem fair. sure they aren't as physical but they can make or break a game

Because most people don't understand the pressure behind their job. Sure all they're suppose to do is kick, but if it was that easy, there would be no missed field goals or kickoffs out of bounds. You are correct in your saying a lot of games are decided by the kickers themselves, and deserve respect. The people that say they don't have never played the game, nor do they understand the game also.

I agree that it is partially because they aren't in the trenches, but it's more than that. It's a sense of respect within the team. Kickers don't have to know the playbooks, they don't have to sit in the classes with everyone else. They are completely separate from the team. If you ever watch a practice, the kickers are off by themselves for the entire time. There is a major sense of team in football and the kicker stands off from the team. The rest of the players don't even really get to know them. Also they are a different breed of person, not as much into the physicality of football, a lot of them are soccer players who don't even care about football.

I respect them as athletes but I almost don't put them in the category of football players.

Because they aren't the Tom Bradys' or the T.O.'s of football. The media pays attention to headline grabbers. Other than that, kickers don't do anything that the media craves, so they're often underrated.

Sad, but true.

might be because they don't share the bond of "battling in the trenches" that all the others do. basically they are paid to kick a ball a few times a game, with minimal contact with the other team.

All they have to do is kick and some are terrible at it.
