Georgia is higher because they have a better overall record than Tennessee. LSU had to drop more than 3 spots and right now UGA is playing a lot better.

LSU should be higher than Tech, as they are in the writers' poll. I don't always agree with the philosophy that if one team beats another, they should always be ranked higher, since it's your entire season that's being judged, but when two teams who've played have the same record, and one kicked the crap out of the other one? Come on.

Damdest year in NCAA football I can remember. Michigan starts the season by losing to Appalachian State, Oregon at the big house..win several in a row...and blow it in the last 2 games.
And that's only the story of one team.
Same in other conferences across the country - all but one of the big time Florida teams haven't done much. Oklahoma went "south," and so on.
Look for Missouri to be at or very near the top. Had "high hopes" for LSU -and- understand your logic, but two late losses may knock them out of the top 10 - a shame, they're still probably the best team in Division I.
I just don't know how good West Virginia is....um...just don't know. Perhaps we'll find out if they end up in the BCS title game.
God forbid - maybe Hawaii will play East Montana Jr. College for the "all the marbles." LOL

The Coaches Poll has Virginia Tech tied for fifth with Kansas (with 1,161 points), while LSU is ranked seventh (with 1,134 points). That's a difference of only 27 points.

So you would have LSU ranked in the top 5 with 2 loses against teams that aren't currently ranked? Personally, I wouldn't have either one in the top 5.
