Who usually has control of the remote? I used to be, now I'll be on the couch with my little guy, I'll try to pass a cartoon, he'll say, "That one." and take the remote from my hand.

IN this house, we fully believe in the adage, "remotes were meant to be used." The best feature they have is "Mute." I am surely not the only one to notice that ads are about 15 db louder than the loudest part of the actual program! And, from what I see of cartoons today, they are on so many different levels, they are just plain fun. But as a rule, I am the keeper of the remote...no one else is fast enough to hit the mute button! Goldwing

Yes, I am a channel flipper. I will be watching something then flip through the channels and forget what I was watching or worse yet, keep catching the commericals. I don't have control of the remote very often, my husband is in charge of that as I am not a big tv buff.

No, I'm not a channel flipper, but my husband is. As far as who controls the remote....we have two! I guess you could say we have his and hers remotes. My husband is disabled so he watches a lot of t.v. during the day, so at night I get to watch pretty much whatever I want. Problem is there's really not that much on to watch! Goldwing was right though, the volume change drives me nuts, and I am constantly turning the volume down then up again when the commercial is over. I miss the days when my girls really liked to watch cartoons, they still do but it's things like "Family Guy" or "King of the Hill". I miss watching "Rugrats"!

No little guys or gals round my house ['cept the cat and he prefers HGTV! lol]

Yep, I'm a channel hopper. Since I got cable I have so many daggum channels I can't keep up with what is on and when - much less which channel! SO I just 'surf' until I see something I want to watch. There are even times I watch two channels at once....flipping back and forth or I do pic n pic...

The only programs I KNOW I wanna watch in primetime are CSI; SVU and 24 and almost anything on HGTV.

Like goldwing, I use the mute button when those aggravating commercials come on...way too loud for my liking. I ain't deaf! -yet! lol

Right now I don't have cable, but I will soon.

As for the remote, I had an Uncle that loved to change channels and do it fast. Everytime he started this, his wife would start singing the opening line to the jingle for the "Flipper" TV show. Do you remember it? It started out "They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightening". It got to the point whenever he would sit down with the grandkids, cousins, nieces and nephews, that we had a chorus going. It was so funny.

It was just one of the good things I will always remember.

Not usually, as I check the TV guide in the paper first, and decide what I'm going to watch, unless it's really boring or a re-run, then I will flip channels to so what else I want to watch.
That is one reason I do not have Cable. all those channels, it takes you forever to see what is on, then decide what you want to watch, by the time you have it figured out, the program is half over, and then you have to start all over again. Beside why should I have to pay someone to watch my own TV, just another consumer rip off. and another bill to pay.
I only have 7 channels and that works just fine for me.

I do. The remote rule here is that if it's left unattended it's fair game! My husband gets really bad, not only does he flip channels on the TV but he will also flip to the DVD, to the VCR and back to the TV, all in a matter of minutes. Drives me crazy!

No. We have Tivo and I would rather check the guide and plan what to watch. Occasionally though we just look through the channels and land on something interesting. We kinda share the remote and each look at what is on before moving on.

Wick, I wouldn't know how to NOT flip. I love it! Have you ever done this? I'll flip on another channel during a commercial, start watching something and then forget that I originally was watching another program which I now have completely missed the end of?? I do this once in awhile. LOL

That is one of the blessings of living on my own now, I'M in charge of the remote.....for the first time ever....lol, those flipping Males always took charge, you have got to admit, it is a man thing, I've never understood why they HAD to have the remote welded to their hand....
I tottally agree with GW on being fast on the button with the volume when those adverts start...I'm a real sharp shooter now, I HATE how those blasted adverts are so loud
