Absolutely not. Using embryonic stem cells is immoral. However, the subject is mute since they have learned to make stem cells from skin cells.

Read an article the other day that the dude that started the stem cell stuff in the states has developed a process to "create" a cell from normal tissue to eliminate the need for embryonic stem cells. (according to the interview, he was quite relieved because of his personal reservations about the morality of embryonic research). Hopefully, your question will soon be a moot point.

I will stand out as one of the very few opposed to embryonic stem cell research. Especially in light of the resent discovery this past week by the father of stem cell research himself. He has found a way to do away with all embryonic stem cell research through modification of skin cells, thereby creating his own embryonic cells through skin cell modification.
Do a google search on the subject matter.

The reactions in the US towards stem cell research are absurd...stem cell research holds so much promise that denying the tool is tantamount to holding the ill prisoners. IT seems to be the far lunatic fringe of the Christian right wing that is running this country at this time...they object to everythign except what THEY interpret a book go mean...I have not found one reference to Stem Cell Research in that book. Our stance is preposterous. Thankfully, Europeans have a far more sane apporach to life. Isn't it ironic that the US was formed from those seeking freedom from religious persecution? Now, it would seem that to have freedom from this same persecution, we must go to Europe! Strange how things can turn upside down in a relatively short time. WE, as Americans, boast of separation of Church and State, yet we seem to be ruled by Churches NOT of my choosing! IT is far past the point of cleaning house here, it calls for a total disinfection of the entire system. Goldwing

It would be a good thing if they could end up with a cure for even one of our health problems.
Those in the medical and the pharmaceutical field. DO NOT intend on curing any of the diseases.
They intend to research the HELL out of it but just in case they did, how would they fill their pockets.
The last time they found a cure for anything was the polio Vaccine and the man that discovered it was not from the United states. (thank God for that)
We will be arguing about it till hell freezes over.
Thanks for the opportunity to let off a little steam.
I needed that.

The entire argument against is silly. There are those who think if it's allowed, women will abort for cash, and that's just too heinous to contemplate.
I'm no scientist, but I've read that adult stem cells are not as effective as embrionic cells.
And, in the case of frozen embryos, unless they're nurtured, they will never become viable human beings, so why not do something useful with them?
Edit: Goldwing -- Bully for you. I couldn't say it as well.

using fetus cells no, i find the idea horrifying, and demonic, but now they have found a way to make stem cells from other cells so in that case why not and why did it take them this long to discover this?
Can someone ask ahsoasho to stop yelling? Its giving me a headache

Absolutely. Cord blood also contains stem cells and I firmly believe that stem cell research may cure many illnesses. Many of those embryos are to be discarded anyway, why not use them for research.
Excellent question BTW

Two others have pointed out that there is a new procedure using skin cells. This is a better way to proceed with research.

AND WHY NOT?
THE CONTROVERSY IS A SOCIAL ISSUE AND AN ETHICAL ISSUE.
STEM CELL RESEARCH WAS A PRODUCT OF THE 60'S AND DEVELOPED IN CANADA. SO WHY ARE WE WAITING NOW 47 YEARS LATER TO ADVANCE THE RESEARCH
STEM CELL RESEARCH TODAY USES A SINGLE CELL BIOPSY SIMILAR TO THAT USED IN PREIMPLANTATION. A GENETIC DIAGNOSIS, THAT MAY ALLOW A STEM CELL CREATION WITHOUT EMBRYONIC DESTRUCTION.
STEM CELL RESEARCH IS A PRO LIFE ISSUE? BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE ABORTIONS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE AND WILL TAKE PLACE BECAUSE OF ROE V WADE (WOMAN'S RIGHT TO CHOSE TO HAVE AN ABORTION, NOT STATES RIGHT TO DICTATE THEY CANNOT .)
CANNOT THESE STEM CELLS BE USD INSTEAD OF DISCARDED?
WHAT ABOUT IN VITRO FERTILIZATION (DONATED WITH THE CONSENT TO RESEARCH. (EGG CELLS CREATED OUTSIDE OF THE WOMB, FERTILIZED BY SPERM.)
PRO LIFE ALLOWS FOR ASSISTED REPRODUCTION THIS WAY TO HELP COUPLES WITH INFERTILITY TO CONCEIVE?
BECAUSE WE ALL SIT ON OUR GLUTIOUS MAXIMUS AND DO NOT VOICE A VOTE TO CONGRESS AND THOSE ELECTED THAT THIS IS WHAT WE WANT.
THE RELIGIOUS ISSUE IS OK FOR A COUPLE TO CONCEIVE BUT NOT TO ESTABLISH A CLONING SOCIETY?
WHO ARE THE PRO LIFERS, THEY WANT TO EAT THE CAKE AND PIE ALSO? AND WE ARE TO BLAME FOR ALLOWING IT.
CHURCHES DO NOT PAY TAXES BUT BUILD EMPIRES TO HIRE LAWYERS TO EXPOUSE THEIR BELIEFS ON THE TAXES WE ALLOW THEM NOT TO PAY. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE A POLITICAL ENTITY THEN WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TAX YOUR VOICE TO BE HEARD. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION OR IS IT VISA VERSA?
