We cant do anything to end the war in Iraq. Not now and not in 2008.
We cant stop something that isnt finished. I dont agree with how it started, but to pull out now would only cause issues on a much larger scale. They dont even have a goverment in place that could handle the country yet.

Our government does not represent the will of the majority of the citizens of the United States on most issues.

There have been dozens of protests since 2002 all across our country against the Iraq war and occupation and they get little mention in our Corporate media. Letters, phone calls and e-mails to Congress and the Senate keep the pressure on, but ultimately the military occupation keeps getting funded.

If conditions worsen Bush uses it as an excuse to maintain stability. If conditions improve then it's used as an excuse to stay. 30,000 troops escalated the (non-private-mercenary) troop presence to over 160,000. Now when 5,000 troops come home it's called a partial withdrawal.

Bottom line the world's largest embassy is being built in the Green Zone and many "enduring" (permanent) U.S. military bases are not being abandoned for many years.

What gives you the impression that it will all end in November, 2008? First, the next President will be inaugurated in January, 2009. Second, the democrats stopped promising yo end military action in Iraq after the last congressional elections. You might remember how Pelosi had her own supporters protesting outside her house just two months after she took office, for her refusal to even attempt to keep that promise.

Democrats will continue to fund military action because they want it to continue. If they didn't they would pass any funding legislation on it. They have the simple majority required to not pass legislation, but they're counting on you to not figure that out.

Now, if you want to end military action in Iraq (war was never declared) you can convince Congress that we need to fight wars like we did before Vietnam. The only way to win this thing is to kill terrorists, which we weren't allowed to do when I was in Iraq.

Educate the people, demonstrate in a way to attract the media, write letters to all the politicians, engage in civil disobedience if need be. Read up on it, answer and ask intelligent questions like yours.Talk about the war everywhere in your churches, civic organisations, Unions and professional groups.Teachers can also play a role if careful to make students aware in a non political way.

I think we should let it end in its own time. Night life is beginning to return to Baghdad, and home sales are increasing, but it's taken this long for it to happen. For the most part, the Sunnis and the Shia are beginning to cooperate with each other to end the violence over there--but it took time.

I really think we should leave the troop withdrawal decisions to the people who are qualified to make them. We here are not.

there seems to be nothing you or any citizen can do to end the iraq war it is one of Bush's pet projects and as such he is beyond hope of listening to reason about it for if he did he would have to concede that he made a huge mistake that cost american lives and did little to stablize the region
