I think the phone will run pretty much neck & neck with the TV as far as taking a step back.
There is such a massive amount of new technology that is coming that we can't even fathom at this point where it will lead.
The technology is here now that will virually eliminate TV in the conventional sense because we can get it over the internet now. Voice transmission has been around for a long time and so telephones might well become obsolete at least in the form we recognize.
We now have the technology to have communication to talk to anybody anywhere in the world, no matter how remote the location. Granted it is expensive now, but the world is getting smaller and smaller and the demand is getting greater and greater.
I believe that possibly within the next 10 years communication will be more affordable for the masses and the concept of using "dialup" as a means of using internet will be obsolete.

I think TV will because phones are basically becoming little computers and you can even watch TV on some phones

The tv. We can watch movies on the computer (our choice too), phone is still equally important though because it's much better hearing someones voice than reading his/her words.

The phone and TV will most likely not take a step back in the near future, simply because there are way too many folks who
for some reason or another, just refuse to get a PC or a Mac.
