I am a Biblical Christian from America (U.S.) who celebrates Hanukkah. How's THAT for crazy??? I am looking forward to spending time with my family with no television and candle light for 8 nights straight. To me, that is a special treat. I also look forward to giving all who come to my home a special gift...picked for them, without them giving me one. (The host picks and passes out the gifts- I hate it when someone feels obligated to get me a gift.) If I invited someone for any of the nights of Hanukkah, I did it because I had a special gift in mind for that person and wanted to spend time with them.

I also look forward to the first night of Hanukkah because I am going to be making a nice rice/vegetarian meat casserole that is soooo tasty! On the last night, I make a vegetarian holiday turkey wreath that is also really good.

United States... and I can no longer partake of my Holiday Tradition. My father's Mother's family always made Holiday fruit cookies loaded with sugar, dates, and red and green candied cherries. When Grandmother passed - my sister took up the tradition. I am now Diabetic - as is my mom - so only part of the family can indulge these days... but here's the recipe! Holiday Fruit Cookies: 1 1/2 cups vegetable shortening 2 cups granulated sugar 4 large eggs 2 tablespoons milk 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 8 ounces dates, chopped 4 ounces candied green cherries, chopped 4 ounces candied red cherries, chopped 2 cups pecans, chopped Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking sheet; set aside. In a bowl, with an electric mixer on medium speed, blend together shortening and sugar. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla; mix well. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in dates, pineapple, green cherries, red cherries and pecans until thoroughly combined. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Makes 60 cookies. Peace!

Every year I make apple cranberry pie. I give them out in pie plates I have found in thrift stores for gifts. I bring one to every gathering, and they are a hit.

I make them at my restaurant so I can make 5 at a time. It's very helpful.
I live in Chicago...

Happy Holidays!!!!!
