I have two male cats that are generally well behaved. The only issue is something with just one of them, Brody. We have a chaise in our living room as part of our sectional. Like most couches it has that thin delicate "liner" covering the underside of the couch. My cat Brody was able to pull the liner away from the couch bottom and climb inside (he sits on top of the liner INSIDE the couch). He goes in it all the time now and has really pulled the liner down.

We want to fix it so that he will no longer be able to get inside the couch. What can we use? Obviously the current liner is useless now with how torn up it is so what else can we use? It doesn't matter how it looks since it’s underneath the couch and you can't see it. We want something that will be strong enough if he does try to get inside again. He doesn't scratch or damage anything else, just loves going inside our couch. It has to stop.

Thanks for any advice

Try felt, thick felt or even a thin piece of plywood where he can't get in there at all. If you use felt, place the staples pretty close together, if you use the plywood, you use finishing nails , short ones.

go to home depot, or find a furniture builder/maker store, and get a roll of felt to replace what has been torn. a staple gun and youre all set. he will probably get into it again though since he is already used to it, and hes a cat. you could replace it with roofing felt (also at home depot) which is tougher, or another material (try linens & things, or someplace similar) for something that a cat wont easily be able to get through. your could always get some metal screen to put on the inside of the felt.

try getting one of those cat cubby hole deals (round carpet thing with a little hole/door) and put it near where he goes under the couch to get into his inprovised den. hopefully he will prefer the new one to the underside of the couch, but ive always found cats like whatever is cheapest and frown on expensive toys and stuff. (ie-a foil ball is always better then a $5 tennis ball for cats)

-cats love closed in places so he may not give his new home up easily/without a fight.

What's wrong with him being inside the couch. He feels safe there. Take the old liner off and let him be.

Cheapest way is to use is small roofing nails or apostary tacks and corrugated cardboard . Or spray with vinegar mixed with 50% water under neith. He won't go there.

You might try the nylon screen used for window screens. Tack this on the bottom and it will be more durable than any kind of fabric.
