Please give a brief reason why.
And please don't bring God and the bible into it ... I am asking about gay marriage and the rights given to married couples under US Federal and State laws.

Details: Although many perceive that "marriage" is a right conferred by a church ... it is, in fact, a right issued by the state under parameters set forth by the federal government. That's why in the ceremony the priest (or whatever) says "By the power vested in my by the state of .... I know pronounce you ..."

Also, yes, the rules say that States define the marriage rules but each state acknowledges every other state's marriage rights ... which is why you don't have to get remarried every time you move to another state. In fact, the US gov't and the states also recognize marriages from other countries.

However, because of the volatility of the "gay marriage" thing states are choosing NOT to acknowledge gay marriages made in states where gay marriage has been legalized. AND, the states and US gov't will NOT recognize the rights of gay couples married in different countries!

For it.

The US Constitution doesnt explicitly say its illegal, however, it does make a strong point on equality and basic human rights for all. If marriage is considered a basic human right for straights, why not for gays?

It IS natural, even though its not as common as heterosexuality. Its been with us since the beginning of human history, animals do it, senators do it :) normal, healthy people do it. Its not an illness. Its a part of who you are.

Because we would be creating a second class society if we didnt afford them the same rights and choices as other Americans.

Absolutely for it 100%!

Every now and again you see stories on yahoo and via other media outlets, announcing that someone, somewhere in the world has married their pet dog or their horse or whatever.

Yahoo ran a news article about one guy who married a dog to break a curse only recently. (in africa i think it was).

Everyone reads the story, has a good laugh about it and the subject is closed. The ethics of it are never raised and funnily enough, you never hear the marriage condemned, it is accepted simply as 'what some people do'.

However, when it comes to gay marriage it is a different story, because it is always a heavily debated topic and all the ethics are scrutinised from top to bottom, usually resulting in the condemnation of any gay couple daring to take marriage vows.

In the UK, gay marriage is legal, just as it should be, because a loving couple isn't exclusive to male and female couples,

I'm gay and the marriage issue has always been a hot button issue for me, but I have decided that right now Its not the issue I will vote on, I am planning to vote for Ron Paul for president even though he doesnt support gay marriage, but as far as I am concerned he is right on the other issues. Also no matter how much gay marriage is legalized there will always be red tape for married gay couples, so in retrospect I would rather vote for someone who will lower taxes so I can keep more of my money so when I do get married I can hire a lawyer to help me with those things...

The States and there churches are supposed to be seperate, but, the government and the churches are very much aligned and feed off each other. My own thought is, 'due to the religious influence', the States refuse to accept marrriage of same sex couples. Until the leaders of churches and there christian followers have more tolerance towards homosexuals, same sex marriages in the States don't have a chance. Personaly, I'm against it.

I even have discovered in existence that in case you do no longer say something or communicate out even slightly, and save your mouth close, that somewhat lots skill you're for something. human beings assume you compromise. i admire gay human beings and function gay acquaintances. yet.... you're outstanding they'll save sinning in spite of if we make the marriage criminal or no longer. yet there comes a time once you in simple terms could say, i do no longer agree. the ingredient concerning the marriage is they get advantages. They get to declare one yet another as a husband and spouse might. in any different case, they are basically 2 human beings residing at the same time. they decide to be recognised through society as a criminal couple, so it is not likely concerning the intercourse according to se.

I'm not bothered, as long as the people who are marrying love each other leave them be.
And to the idiot who said it's unatural to be gay, how come there are people born gay.

Yes i am for gay marriage. Gays are allowed to vote, contribute to society and whatever else heterosexuals do, so why not be able to be legally married.

everywhere in the world except the country in which I live (except for Massachuttsets)

For. If gay people are barred from marriage, then shouldn't infertile people, women past menopause or people who do not engage in sexual activity also be barred?

As a Canadian, I have the right... yet the "land of the free" does not, ironically enough.
