I work for a non-profit organization who is very image conscious and I am afraid to tell them I am pregnant. Neither of my bosses were able to conceieve children, and since I am un-wed and living with my boyfriend (baby's daddy) whom I love, I am not sure how to tell them and not sure how they will handle me being pregant. I am starting to show however, I don't have to go into my office often, and when I do, I make sure I am wearing something baggy so they can't really tell. Also, since I am due in April, I don't plan to come back until the next school year, if they will have my back. The schools as well the organization I work for think I do a good job. I just don't really know how or when to tell them. If you were my boss how would you handle me being pregant? What should I do?

Tell them tomorrow. They wil take it in stride because there are serious consequences if they do not. If they are image conscious, a discrimination case would not fit that image.

Whether you work for a non-profit, or for profit company, this is personal business and you don't have to tell them until you are 9 months if that is your choice. You cant be fired for being pregnant either, and the law provides for you to return to your job but in a reasonable amount of time (3 months I believe is the time) so the beginning school year should work out fine for them. And whether or not they have children should not be any concern. If this is an image conscious job then morally you do have a consideration. Are you getting married before the baby arrives.....? That would be good to do....!! Share the wedding with your employers, if you desire, and at some point later, let them know you are expecting, with the expected date and your intentions and go from there. Remembering what the Federal Laws provide for you and your baby.......See, it is simple.

You can notify them in writing.

I would do it soon. At least do it by 6 months.

They can't fire you for being pregnant.

A non-profit should be the FIRST to welcome a pregnant woman.

Check out the book "What to expect when you are expecting"....there is also a website by the author that probably has good advice.

I just went in and told my employer, when I hit the 3-month mark. Everyone in the office knew from the day I got a positive hpt.

you should tell them soon as the longer you wait it will appear that you are trying to hide it but if you tell them early then you will be doing the right thing and if you lose your job because of it then you have a descrimination law suit as long as you got pregnant after you got the job and there isn't a clause in the employee handbook stating anything different

Well, I would tell them asap. Because it's better you tell them, than they ask you and put you on the spot. If these are nice people, they should be happy for you. It's normal for you to feel bad since they couldn't have children, but they should handle it okay. Good luck!

I mean you are 21 weeks pregnant, you aren't going to be able to hide it forever.
But they should be happy for you.
I mean I am un-wed and 25 weeks pregnant and I live with my boyfriend(baby's daddy) and I am not ashamed of it.
But you can tell that I am pregnant .

Just tell them.
Better sooner than later.

you should just tell them sooner than later, so arrangements can be made if you're planning to be gone on maternity leave for some period of time. usually, people are very happy when they find out someone is going to be having a baby. they will probably be very happy for this wonderful event in your life.

Until you have to take maturity leave its none of their business. If you want to tell them, do, if you don't then don't. They can not fire you for being pregnant, that is illegal. Most states require them to give you a job at the pay rate you had before going on maturity leave (but they don't have to give you your old position back). It's none of their business, you have nothing to be ashamed of, don't hide it.
