I remember the days when kids were allowed in for a look and think pilots should still have some discretion over this issue don't you?

It is harsh but it is the rule.

I would imagine that if there was a possibility of having this person on the flight deck the crew or the operator could have gone through the trouble of clearing this fellow to visit the flight deck while airborne prior to flight.

This is the sort of thing that happens when you take short cuts instead of doing things according to the rules. If you don't you are taking a chance and you can get burned. That is what happened to this pilot.

It does seem a little over the top. I brought back a memory from my childhood though.
On a flight to Spain I was aloud into the cockpit to see the pilot. He was drinking a glass of orange juice. I said that I didn't like it and he told me that it steadied his nerves.
Now that I am a little worldly wise I am sure he had a little vodka in there as well!
How the world has changed.

I don't think its harsh at all.
Why, just because he is a footballer, should he be allowed to flaunt the rules. These rules are in place for a purpose. The pilot knew about the rules & the reasons for having them but still decided he knew better. If you break the rules, you have to pay the price.

Yes its harsh the pilot is only a human being, I understand why the rule was made, but people do bend the rules, and in this particular situation it was harmless

Yeah but a footballer isn't exactly a kid (despite however one may act like one).

Aww, I hope they do still allow children to go and see the cockpit- I remember being invited to see it once on a flight to America when I was about six, they even gave me a wing badge!!

Some might say it is harsh but fair, since rules are made for a reason.

Others might say discretion should've been used.

Then there are those who would say anyone who bends rules to help Robbie Savage deserves everything he gets.

No,not at all, since 9/11 all pilots have to lock the cabin doors, which is pretty sensible.

If hijackers wouldn't have been able to get to the crew, they wouldn't have been able to fly the planes into the twin towers and thousands of people wouldn't have been killed

This is just another example of the politically correct brigade
ruining normal life.
Whichever way you turn, these days, there is some "Jobsworth" telling you, you can't do, whatever you are
doing.
If they are allowed to keep it up, we will end up, with a country full of WIMPS.

It is obvious ,that the people making these decisions, are not
pilots.
It is also obvious to me, that these "Jobsworths" should be made to qualify for a pilots license, before they are allowed to make, this kind of decision.

Fair to be honest. If they let this one go, then other will do it and all it takes is once for one person to allow the wrong person onto the deck and thats it, 9/11 again.
