There are many different trade names. They are readily available from health-food shops and chemists - all clearly labelled. 'Brain booster' might overstate it a little but its hard to beat the boring stuff like eating a proper balanced diet, getting enough sleep ... that kind of thing. It would be great to boost brain power without effort, wouldn't it, but exercising your brain is probably more effective. There is evidence that Omega 3 fatty acids are good for us in some ways but it is never a bad thing to challenge the hype and to check the evidence.

Omega three fatty acids contain two main constituents: EPA and DHA. DHA is the phospholipid that gets incorporated into your brain and can definitely help to improve brain function. They have done many studies and have shown that omega 3 fatty acids (specifically the DHA) helps with brain health because of the phospholipid incorporation into the outer cell membrane. With omega three fatty acids you are best to take fish oil (a good example is Nutrasea fish oil). You want to make sure that you're getting at least 1000mg of EPA and i'm not sure the exact therapeutic dosage of DHA. Contrary to what a few people have mentioned flax oil is not a good source of EPA and DHA - studies have shown that the conversion of flax oil to these constituents is less than 1% so i wouldn't use it as a good source. Gingko is a good "brain booster" but only because it increases blood flow to the brain (so you need to be careful if you have high blood pressure or atherosclerosis). The best thing to do is eat a healthy diet with a good therapeutic amount of fish oil!

there are tons of companys that make them. . good sources for "omega 3 fatty acids " are cod liver oil or flaxseed oil. ginko biolbla is supposed to be a good herbal supplement for the brain. DHEA is something your body produces naturally but then stops making as you get older, so they think taking supplements might keep your brain functioning better as you age.

They are correct in sayin that there are a very many brands out there...........................but just because there are alot of brands does not mean that they are all selling the same thing or the same quality. After many many years in the health food industry we only carried the best highest quality products, if we ever found a product we carried to be substandard in anyway (irreguardless of price) we dropped it. for Fish Oil products we ended up only recommending one.
